Set just below a 12th century watch tower, in what was once Montcuq's village square, is a very special house whose thick limestone walls were erected at the same time as the tower. The property is more spacious than most Montcuq townhouses and benefits from a generous garden, two very large terraces, both with stunning country views and no less than four separate cellars. Offering the kind of proportions and facilities found in out-of-town country houses, it is nevertheless just a two minute stroll away from the village square with its restaurants, bars, shops and market.

Situated in the beautiful verdant countryside of the Lot Valley, the pretty village of Montcuq epitomises all that is good about this untouched corner of south-west France. Small enough to have retained the timeless character of a stereotypical medieval French village with its winding streets and shuttered limestone houses, but lively enough to support a vibrant Sunday market, several busy bars and restaurants and all the necessary shops. There are tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool in the village and close by a lake with a sandy beach, childrens play area and cafe.

The Lot Valley is an area where all the epicurean delights that one associates with France can be found under one roof. From delicious dark Cahor wines, Fois Gras, woodland mushrooms and truffles, through to walnuts, locally grown melons and regional goats cheese, this is an area where food and the French way of eating receives the utmost respect.

A stronghold of the Cathar religious movement, Montcuq is still littered with reminders of its rich history. To this day, the watch tower, the only remaining element of a 12th century castle that once ringed this picturesque village rises above Montcuq, standing as a unique monument that can be seen from many miles away and guides visitors and pilgrims alike towards the village.
